April 2005

Needed to wait until the area and zone camps were through to report on how our teams did.  I think the representation from our club was fantastic - and a special thanks to our coaches who all participated.

First the Futures team which is made up of those born 1991 or later.  We had Brooke Fuller, Taylor Hanson, Andie Plunkett and Brooke McGee all chosen to the area group.  BOTH Andie and Brooke McGee were chosen to represent our Zone at the national selection camp over Memorial Day in Long Island, New York.  Karen Umemura who will be our 16-u girls coach this summer will be traveling with them

The Youth team is made up of those born 1989-1990.  Making the area teams were Lyndsay Sutterley, Megan Bohlender, Jodi Hanson, Lindsey Pengilley, Melanie McBroom, Ryley Plunkett, Brandi McGee and Morgan Kelley.  Lindsey Pengilley, Melanie and Ryley all were chosen to represent our Zone at the national selection camp over Memorial Day in Davis, CA.

The Junior team is made up of those born 1987-1988.  Making the area team were Katrina Gallardo and Katie Carson.  Both players were chosen to represent our Zone at their national selection camp over Memorial Day in Salt Lake City.  Flip Hassett who will be our "roving" coach this summer will be traveling with them.

Additionally, our boys team will complete their spring season on the 17th with their final tournament.  Lisa Avrett has done an outstanding job coaching this program.   This spring is the largest turn out of pre high school boys we have every had.  The best part is that they have been playing in tournaments against area teams, and have won a few.  We are looking forward to this program in the summer.  Since many of these boys are entering high school, and take summer school - we are changing the times for practice for this age group.  They will practice in the evenings - the times are posted on the web page for summer polo.

Regarding Hawaii.  The prices are just about set.  It looks like with 4 to a room the cost is $981.  With the $100 deposit, the remainder will be $881.  We have set up a program where the athletes can go out and get sponsors and keep 85% of all money that they raise.  Remember that we are a tax exempt program, so that sponsors can deduct the contributions.  Forms, etc. are at the pool.

We still have spaces for the Hawaii trip.  Click on the Hawaii information page for more details.  At this time Kathy McBroom will be in charge of collection, etc. so please contact her if you have any questions.  We will be taking a 16-under boys and girls team - an 18-under boys and girls team - and one open women's team

The summer schedule is somewhat complete and is currently posted.  We have not quite finished all the particulars, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what we are planning.  Regarding Junior Olympics at this time we will try to qualify the following teams: 14-under boys, 16-under boys, 18-under boys, 16-under girls.  We are still flexible on the issue of the girls and Junior Olympics.

As summer polo approaches, please get in your registration forms.  We will practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning the Tuesday after high school section swimming.  That date will be May 17th.  Please look at the website for additional information.
