Coaching Staff

Following is a short sketch of the coaching staff for 2008 and Modesto/Stanislaus Water Polo and Swim Teams

Brent Bohlender

Director and founder of MSWP in 1977.  Brent has been coaching swimming and water polo since 1969.  Currently he is the water polo and swim coach at Johansen H.S., as well as the Zone Chairperson for Water Polo in Northern California.

From 1984 to 1999 he was the coach of the USA Women's Junior National team.  In his 15 years at the helm the team won 3 Pan American gold medals, as well as medaled in the World Championships two times. Between the years 1984 and now the Modesto/Stanislaus team has won 18 national championships as well as medaled an additional 44 times in all levels of competition. As a high school coach, his overall record of wins, 1,216 is the most of any high school coach at a varsity level in the United States.

In 2001 he was inducted into the US Water Polo Hall of Fame.  He has also been awarded the C.I.F. Model High School Coach of the year in 2007, named the U.S. Olympic Developmental Coach of the Year in 1999.  Received the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association service award in 2001.  Locally the first to receive the Darrel Phillips Outstanding Coach of the Year from the S.O.S. club in 1997.

Currently is the directing the administrative end of the program, having directly coached the older girls in 2007.
